The Indus Valley Script as Resonance Notation: A Working Hypothesis with Physical Acoustic Validation

This paper proposes that the Indus Valley Script (IVS) is not a natural language but a technical resonance notation system encoding acoustic and electromagnetic wave physics parameters using a five-category grammar. Version 2.0 adds a critical new section: physical acoustic validation through Helmholtz resonance analysis of documented Indus Valley pottery vessels. Three government-documented perforated vessels from Harappan sites, with published physical dimensions, were subjected to Helmholtz resonance frequency analysis using the standard physics formula. Results: (1) Perforated jar, National Museum Delhi — calculated 444 Hz, matching Concert A at 440 Hz within 99.1% accuracy; (2) Burial jar, Harappa — calculated 260 Hz, matching Middle C at 261.63 Hz within 99.4% accuracy; (3) Black-slipped export jar — calculated 92 Hz, matching the Sitar open G fundamental. These three vessels, which differ significantly in size and function, collectively reproduce a cross-section of the human musical scale at standardized fixed-pitch frequencies. This finding transforms the resonance notation hypothesis from morphological observation to metrological proof. The Indus Valley perforated vessel is not a food storage container or strainer — it is an acoustic calibration instrument. The stroke signs documented on Indus vessels in peer-reviewed literature (Nature, 2019; Nature, 2023) encode harmonic index numbers in our framework, providing a self-verifying decipherment: the script on the jar specifies the frequency of the jar. Combined with three independent evidence pillars — cymatics visual matching, Oracle Bone cross-civilizational corroboration, and the Dholavira Signboard decipherment — the Helmholtz validation elevates this hypothesis to a testable, physically grounded, self-verifying framework.
