DNS Resolution Performance: A Scientific Analysis of 981 Hosting Providers

This dataset and accompanying research paper present a large-scale quantitative analysis of Domain Name System (DNS) resolution efficiency across the global hosting ecosystem. Utilizing the proprietary WhspeBot v4.0 telemetry engine, the study atomizes DNS latency ($T_{dns}$) from transport-layer and cryptographic negotiations. The research spans 981 independent hosting providers, with data collected over a continuous 14-day epoch in January 2026. To ensure high-fidelity results and eliminate stochastic noise from localized caching or BGP routing anomalies, a 10% Trimmed Mean (Truncated Mean) methodology was employed, systematically excluding extreme outliers to isolate a central tendency subset of 781 valid data points. Key Research Objectives: Quantifying the correlation between backend server technology stacks (Anycast/Edge, LiteSpeed, Nginx, Apache) and DNS resolution speed. Evaluating the architectural impact of decentralized Anycast propagation versus monolithic centralized DNS nomenclature.
