Emotional and psychosocial difficulties of veterans from theatres of operations

The article analyzes the complexity of the emotional and psychosocial difficulties faced by veterans in theatres of operations, emphasizing that the responsibility of the state should not be limited to symbolic recognition, but should be assumed as a permanent moral and legal obligation. The paper explores the impact of participating in external missions on mental health, with a particular focus on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and acute stress, in accordance with updates in the DSM-5 TR. The authors propose a multidimensional approach to veteran well-being, based on the Bowles model, which integrates the medical, professional and family dimensions.
