Protocol for the preparation of a histological sample from the lungs of laboratory albinos mice feeded on a high-calorie diet

A protocol for studying the histology of the lungs of laboratory mice (Mus musculus) maintained on a high-calorie diet is described. Histological sections of lung tissue revealed that the alveoli in these mice are small and tightly packed together, forming a honeycomb-like network. Lobar bronchioles (regardless of their caliber) are accompanied by pulmonary arterioles, then branch within the parenchyma and appear as small blood vessels. Large arteries have an inner and outer membrane. The results of the morphometric study of the lungs, presented in the form of tabular data, demonstrate quantitative indicators of the area of the nuclei of respiratory epithelial cells (10.9±0.25 μm3), the diameter of the alveoli (52±2 μm), and the thickness of the interalveolar septa (6.8±0.2 μm).
