Magnetic‐A: The New R‐Based Toolbox for Analysis of Paleomagnetic Data

Abstract Paleomagnetic remanence in rocks and sediments provides a unique means to constrain stratigraphic records in both space and time. This is because of the symmetry of the paleomagnetic field with respect to Earth's spin axis over geological time, and the global synchronicity of magnetic field reversals. Several software packages for analysis of paleomagnetic directions and poles have been compiled through the years, each employing different programming languages and offering various computational solutions. However, these tools often face issues with incompatible file formats and challenge users in installation and application. To address these limitations, I introduce Magnetic‐A, a comprehensive toolbox for paleomagnetic analysis. Magnetic‐A helps users from the analysis of individual paleomagnetic directions to the generation of paleomagnetic poles and magnetostratigraphy. Magnetic‐A features several advanced statistical methods for paleomagnetic directions analysis that, to date, are not present in a single analysis platform. Graphical results are easily exportable as editable vector files.
