Holotypes are identified as follows: a = Pipistrellus nanus australis Roberts 1913 (TM 1076), c = Pipistrellus culex Thomas, 1911 (NHMUK 1911.3.24.4), f = Pipistrellus fouriei Thomas, 1926 (NHMUK 1925.12.4.20), and h = Pipistrellus helios Heller, 1912 (USNM 181813). Syntypes of Vespertilio nanus Peters, 1852 (ZMB 588a and ZMB 588c) are identified by a 'n'.
