Phase-Coherent Interstellar Navigation : The Bowfront 220km/s Phase-Slippage Threshold, Geometric Photon Dynamics, Macro-Helicity Channels, and Ultralight Dark-Matter Detection Opportunities

Introduction Interstellar travel confronts humanity with challenges that extend far beyond propulsion energy or engineering scale. One of the most fundamental—and least appreciated—constraints is the interaction between a fast-moving spacecraft and the interstellar medium (ISM). Even in its extreme tenuity, the ISM imposes a hard physical limit: as velocity increases, the craft generates a shock boundary known as the bowfront. Plasma models and observational analogues consistently identify a critical transition near 220 km/s, beyond which the bowfront becomes strongly nonlinear, destructive, and increasingly difficult to manage. This work presents the first unified scientific narrative of the bowfront safety rule, its physical origin, and its deeper interpretation within emerging phase‑geometric frameworks. Building on the A–B Twist Photon Model and Geometric Photon Dynamics, we reinterpret the bowfront not merely as a hydrodynamic shock, but as a macroscopic phase‑frustration surface. At this boundary, emission‑imprinted helical phase (ℓ = ±1) loses alignment with the background ordering field Θ(x), triggering rapid coherence loss, entropy production, and the onset of damaging shock behavior. We derive the phase‑slippage criterion ∣∂sΦ∣>δcrit≈0.1 rad Mm−1, and show step‑by‑step how this reproduces the empirical velocity threshold vcrit≈220 km s−1 under typical VLISM conditions. Within this framework, propulsion is naturally reframed as a phase‑matched macro‑helicity problem, where safe traversal requires maintaining coherence ratios Cψ≈0.65–0.70 and respecting entropy bounds S/kB≤ln⁡2. This reinterpretation opens unexpected capabilities. Bowfront‑enhanced phase gradients may amplify axion‑like dark‑matter conversion, linking interstellar navigation to IAXO, ADMX, and SKA observational channels. Solar‑coronal resonances and polar‑helicity conduits become testbeds for validating the same phase‑coherence principles. Monte‑Carlo phase‑walker simulations reveal a universal scaling Δϕh/(αΘ˙L)=1.0±0.1, bridging twisted‑light stability, solar helicity transport, ISM shock structure, and ultralight dark‑matter phenomenology. This article consolidates these results into a coherent framework, offering both a rigorous derivation of the 220 km/s threshold and a roadmap for propulsion concepts that avoid, mitigate, or even exploit bowfront physics.
