Synthesis of Peropyrene Diimide and Its Cyanated Derivative for n-Type Organic Thin-Film Transistors

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) imides have garnered a substantial amount of attention owing to their unique optoelectronic properties and versatile applications. Herein, we report the synthesis of 1,10,11,14-peropyrene diimide (<b>PPDI</b>), followed by its sequential functionalization. Selective bromination at positions 3 and 8 of PPDI yielded <b>PPDI-2Br</b>, which subsequently underwent cyanation to afford <b>PPDI-2CN</b>. When implemented as an n-type semiconductor in organic field-effect transistors, <b>PPDI-2CN</b> demonstrated promising charge transport characteristics with electron mobility values reaching 0.1 cm² V^-1 s^-1.
