Dynamic Functional Brain Networks after Ayahuasca Ingestion

This study was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) (No. 579,479). These dynamic functional brain networks were constructed through EEG data of individuals during ayahuasca ingestion. EEG data were evaluated using the motif synchronization method (Rosário et al., 2015), combined with time-varying graphs. Representative Network Visualizations (approximately 30 seconds in each video) The following videos present representative examples of weighted aggregated static networks (ASNs) (displayed in each video for approximately 5 seconds, at the beginning) and time-varying graphs (TVG), after ASNs, from a volunteer across the three experimental conditions. In the ASNs, the greener and thicker an edge is, the longer the regions remained synchronized during the analyzed time period. Following the ASNs, the TVGs represent connections over time, where blue edges indicate simultaneous synchronization, and dashed green edges represent directionality (clockwise curvature). Experimental Conditions No_Aya_0h (Baseline): Brain activity was recorded for 5 minutes at rest before the ingestion of ayahuasca, serving as the baseline condition. Peak_2h: Brain activity was recorded for 5 minutes during the peak effects of ayahuasca, approximately 2 hours after ingestion. After_4h: Brain activity was recorded for 5 minutes, 4 hours after ingestion (i.e., 2 hours after the peak effect), representing the post-peak condition.
