What the lifestyle of a university male student with higher VO2 peak looks like

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to reveal what the lifestyle of a regular male university student with higher peak oxygen uptake (VO2 peak) looked like compared to that of those with lower VO2 peak.METHODS: Twenty-eight students participated in this study. VO2 peak was measured and divided into two by its median. The participants were accordingly divided into two groups of higher (N.=14) and lower VO2 peak (N.=14). The participants were asked about how frequently they had each meal, what they ate and drank, history of sports club activities, how they went to school and spent weekends through the questionnaires. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed to reveal factors that identified which group the certain participant belonged to.RESULTS: The model χ2 of omnibus tests of coefficients was 32.086 (P<0.001). Correct classification rate was 92.9%. The factors were: eating one of cooked grains on a daily basis; taking sweetened beverages on a daily basis; eating one of vegetables on a weekly basis; eating the other cooked grains on a weekly basis; walking or cycling to school; and going on a date on weekends.CONCLUSIONS: It was likely that the participants showed higher VO2 peak if they did not eat one of cooked grains on a daily basis, drank sweetened beverages on a daily basis, did not eat one of vegetables on a weekly basis, ate the other cooked grains on a weekly basis, walked or cycled to school and did not go on a date on weekends.
