THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION IN BASIC EDUCATION

This article analyzes the contributions of artificial intelligence (AI) to mathematics education, highlighting its theoretical foundations, pedagogical applications, and ethical challenges in the context of basic education. The study is based on the observation that learning difficulties in mathematics persist despite advances in educational technologies. In this context, the objective was to understand how AI-based tools, such as adaptive learning platforms and intelligent tutoring systems, have been used to support student performance. The methodology consisted of a qualitative literature review analyzing publications produced between 2021 and 2025 in the SciELO, LILACS, and CAPES Periodicals databases. The results indicate that artificial intelligence can support the personalization of teaching, enabling more targeted pedagogical interventions and early diagnosis of learning difficulties. However, the literature also highlights challenges related to algorithmic opacity, data privacy, and inequalities in access to digital technologies. It is concluded that the effectiveness of artificial intelligence in mathematics education depends on pedagogical mediation and on public policies that ensure equitable conditions for implementation. Thus, the conscious integration of these technologies emerges as a promising strategy for developing more inclusive, innovative, and engaging educational practices in mathematics education.
