Effectiveness and safety of PoxClin® CoolMousse for the treatment of chickenpox symptoms in children

BACKGROUND: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of PoxClin® CoolMousse in relieving the symptoms of itching and scratching in children aged 1-11 years, affected by chickenpox.METHODS: This was a prospective, open-label, single-arm study. Patients were instructed to apply PoxClin® CoolMousse at least three times daily over the affected areas or whenever relief in symptoms was desired, for 14 days.RESULTS: A total of 28 subjects (16 females and 12 males) with a mean age of 5 years were included in the study. After 3 days (D3) of use of the PoxClin® CoolMousse, 82% of subjects had a statistically significant improvement (P<0.0001) in the severity of itching compared to D0. After 2 days of usage of PoxClin® CoolMousse (on D2), 71% of subjects reported a statistically significant (P<0.0001) improvement in scratching severity compared to that on D0. Overall, 96% of subjects reported relief in itching and scratching after the first application. On D3, there was a statistically significant (P<0.0001) improvement in skin irritation and rash in 64% and 50% of the subjects, respectively, compared to D0. A statistically significant improvement in erythema, skin roughness, and blister severity was also seen on D3 in 46, 50, and 82% of patients, respectively. No serious adverse events (SAE) occurred during the study. One hundred percent of the subjects were satisfied with the efficacy of the product.CONCLUSIONS: PoxClin® CoolMousse reduces the severity of chickenpox symptoms such as itching, irritation, and rash, provides quick relief from symptoms, and is safe to be used in children.
