First Reported Case of Invasive Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma Arising From an HPV 42-associated Seborrhoeic Keratosis-like Lesion of the Cervix and Vagina

Seborrhoeic keratosis-like lesion (SKLL) is a rare cervical or vaginal lesion with a distinct morphology and a consistent association with HPV 42, which is regarded as a low-risk HPV type. These are regarded as benign lesions, akin to low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions, although occasional cases associated with transformation to a high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion have been reported. We report a unique and previously unreported example of an HPV 42-associated SKLL involving the cervix and vagina with direct transition to an invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix, which also contained HPV 42, in a 76-yr-old woman. This case adds to the current understanding of SKLL and highlights an oncogenic potential.
