Review of: "The Consequences of Peer Review Bias for Academic Careers and the Progress of Science"

Careers and the Progress of Science." I found the paper to be very well-written, thoughtfully developed, and presented in an interesting and readable format for a variety of individuals who are currently employed in higher education.More importantly, the author presents a quantitative analysis of the frequency and probability of peer review bias (prb) with confounding variables such as collegiality and infrastructure that may signi cantly impact the frequency and likelihood of publication.Speci cally, the variables non-elite and elite institutions were examined, with the likelihood of elite institutions providing a greater in uence on the likelihood of publication, whereas researchers who migrated to nonelite institutions had fewer publications due to a slightly lower publication work output.Perhaps most importantly, relative to the speculation of the frequency of prb, the author cites a key study (Chandra & Xu, 2025) that (I would recommend) warrants further discussion in this paper.Speci cally, how do institutions make an impact or in uence the rate of publication that is apparently independent of the researcher's skills and talents that are re ected within his or her research?A second suggested area of further analysis lies in the description of the differences between rates of publication between elite and non-elite institutions.The author observes that the rate of publication among high-caliber researchers is marginally reduced when migrating to a non-elite institution but does not provide contextual information addressing this phenomenon.I would suggest perhaps even survey or interview data from high-caliber authors who have reduced their academic publication efforts.
