On the synchronization of statistical properties of geomagnetic field component measurements before the earthquake of February 6, 2023 in Eastern Turkey

This study analyzes changes in the statistical characteristics of measurements of the E-, H-, and Z-components of the Earth's magnetic field during the 15 days preceding the catastrophic earth-quake that occurred on February 6, 2023, in southern Turkey. Calculations showed that several days before the event, maximum synchronization of the statistical properties of these field components was observed. The characteristic time scales of the process were determined, and variations in the relative level of seismic compression of lithospheric plates in the area of the emerging hypocenter were estimated. The characteristic time between the synchronization maximum and the earthquake onset was ⟨Tₑₓₜᵣ⟩ ≈ 36h. Monte Carlo resampling tests confirmed the statistical significance of this effect (p < 0.01), demonstrating that the observed synchronization cannot be attributed to random fluctuations.
