Personification in Pham Ho’s Stories of Flowers and Fruits

Personification is one of the most frequently employed rhetorical devices in children’s literature, contributing to the construction of a vivid and accessible artistic world for young readers. This study investigates the use of personification in Pham Ho’s Stories of Flowers and Fruits. Drawing on both quantitative and qualitative approaches, the research analyzes linguistic data collected from representative stories in the work. The findings indicate that personification occurs with high frequency and is applied to a wide range of entities, including animals, plants, objects, and natural phenomena. The principal forms of personification include addressing non-human entities using kinship terms, attributing human actions and qualities to them, and treating them as conversational participants. The flexible use of this rhetorical device not only enlivens the natural world but also enhances the cognitive and educational value of the text for primary school readers.
