A High Power Directional Helical Antenna Modelling for Communication and Signal Disruption Operating at 10 MHz

This paper presents the design and analysis of a high-power directional helical antenna optimized for operation in the 9.6–15 MHz range. After reviewing existing antenna configurations, the authors concluded that the helical design offers the best combination of high directivity and radiation efficiency, suitable for systems powered by class E generators used in communications, signal jamming, UAVs, radio devices, etc. The proposed antenna with a length of 1 meter, a diameter of 35 cm, and 20 turns of 3 mm diameter copper wire was designed using mathematical calculations and iterative modelling. Using ANSYS HFSS modelling, the electromagnetic characteristics of the antenna – impedance, gain, and beam pattern – were analyzed, resulting in a calculated beam angle of 70 °C. Realistic materials and boundary conditions with a driver power of 200­300 W were used. Combining theoretical analysis with modelling tools, the study validates the proposed design and highlights the effectiveness and versatility of the spiral configuration for modern high-performance electromagnetic systems, including UAV applications, radio devices, etc.
