Purpose This paper aims to study how manufacturers are under growing pressure to rapidly adapt and move past efficiency-driven logics of Industry 3.0 (I3.0) and Industry 4.0 (I4.0) towards human-centric, sustainable and resilient vision of I5.0. Existing scholarship tackles the three paradigms individually with a technology-centric focus, leaving managers without an integrated view of organisational change. This study fuses technological and organisational paradigm perspectives through an organisational-learning lens to explain how firms can orchestrate the shift towards I5.0. Design/methodology/approach An integrative review of 113 peer-reviewed sources. The authors apply a qualitative framework synthesis approach based on technological and organisational paradigm perspectives using organisational learning theory to synthesise the underlying shifts between industrial revolutions. Findings The analysis surfaces driving mechanisms of each IX.0 paradigm based on the framework. Together, they form the basis of interpreting the underlying changes that manufacturing management and organisations need to realise, and how the I5.0 pillars of human-centricity, sustainability and resilience reshape organisational design. Research limitations/implications Focusing on Western manufacturing, the paper calls for empirical work on human-centric learning factories, ecosystem collaboration and the balance of sustainability and resilience. Further research could also expand the scope to study paradigm shifts at a lower level of organisational granularity and in non-Western contexts where legacy systems and different cultures might impact change. Practical implications Provides managers with mechanisms-specific tables that map technological adoption, mindset change, and learning practices, offering insights for planning and I5.0 transformation initiatives. Originality/value Provides the first holistic, theory-driven comparison of I3.0–I5.0, reframing digital transformation as a paradigm shift rather than incremental evolution and offering clear guidance for both scholars and practitioners.
