Survival Outcomes and Prognostic Factors in Non-Metastatic Nasopharyngeal Cancer Treated with Conventional Radiotherapy in Cameroon: A 6-Year Retrospective Cohort Study in Douala

The question this study addressed. This study evaluated overall and recurrence-free survival in 75 patients with non-metastatic nasopharyngeal cancer treated with 2D conventional radiotherapy at the only public radiotherapy center in Cameroon between 2017 and 2022. What this study adds to our knowledge. It reveals alarmingly low 5-year survival rates: 5% overall and 4% recurrence-free. Most patients (77.3%) were diagnosed at locally advanced stages (III-IVA). Age >65 years was the strongest independent predictor of poor outcome (HR=14.7), while patients aged 18-45 fared better. Treatment duration exceeded 60 days in 50.7% of cases.
