Delicious Moments in Psychology and Education: Integrating Aesthetic Savouring and the <scp>BPSS</scp> Framework

Delicious Moments (DLM) is an emerging, holistic framework that invites individuals to savour life's beauty—even amid pain and imperfection—as a pathway to healing and flourishing. Rooted in Japanese aesthetic and relational traditions such as wabi-sabi (the beauty of imperfection), amae (the longing for safe belonging), kata (ritualised form) and daigomi (multisensory savouring), DLM integrates the biopsychosocial–spiritual (BPSS) model with symbolic rituals and embodied practices. These practices cultivate presence, emotional literacy and relational attunement, reframing healing and learning not as ‘fixing’ deficits but as remembering wholeness. Initially developed through therapeutic practice and personal healing, DLM has grown into a flexible model that extends into psychology education and leadership. It resonates with contemporary movements in positive psychology, mindfulness and experiential learning, while offering a distinct contribution through its emphasis on aesthetic savouring and cultural ritual. In educational contexts, DLM enriches social and emotional learning by incorporating sensory mindfulness, communal dining, reflective storytelling and seasonal metaphors. Such practices create safe, reflective spaces that support resilience, empathy and transformative learning. This chapter outlines the cultural and pedagogical foundations of DLM, explores its applications in psychology teaching and learning and considers its potential as a bridge between therapy, education and cultural renewal.
