Solitary Fibrous Tumor of the Trachea Presenting with Airway Stenosis: A Case Report

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) and primary tracheal tumors are rare. A 36-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for evaluation and treatment of a tracheal tumor causing airway stenosis, as observed on chest computed tomography. Flexible bronchoscopy revealed that the tumor occupied approximately 90% of the tracheal lumen. Bronchoscopic biopsy did not yield a definitive diagnosis. As the tumor remained pathologically undiagnosed and caused significant airway stenosis, prompt intervention was deemed appropriate. The patient was subsequently transferred to a facility equipped to perform the required procedure, where the tumor was immediately resected using rigid bronchoscopy. Pathological examination confirmed that the tumor was an SFT. This case highlights the extreme rarity of primary tracheal SFTs and includes a literature review.
