The misuse of the image of the Other in Njegoš‘s work Gorski vijenac

This paper will examine the discourse of power through the example of Petar II Petrović Njegoš‘s work The Mountain Wreath (Gorski vijenac, 1847) focusing on its misuse in statements by politicians and influential figures, as well as its use in the education system and potential for misuse. The analysis will draw on a range of literary and linguistic theories, with a particular emphasis on Van Dijk‘s concept of micro and macro analysis (Van Dijk, 1980) and his perspective on the influence of ideology on discourse (Van Dijk, 2012). Specifically, we will focus on the example of racist ideology and how it is expressed in literary discourse when misused.
