Sharing and celebrating good practice can help drive quality improvement (QI) on a larger scale. In 2024, 99% of all qualifying hospitals participated in the NACEL, 168 hospitals. As part of the organisational survey, participants were asked to submit narrative feedback to describe 1) the aims of their QI plan relating to end of life care, 2) The target audience of QI activity relating to end of life care, and 3) The top 5 results from implementing these quality improvement plans. The NACEL produces an annual Good Practice Compendium (GPC) to highlight practical, real-world approaches to enhancing quality of care, improving efficiency, and supporting better outcomes for service users and staff. The 2024 GPC is available for the 1st time as an interactive tool on the NACEL website (portal). There were 226 submissions from hospitals submitting narrative feedback (many hospitals have more than 1 submission). Submissions were reviewed by two individuals who identified examples of good practice to feature in the online, interactive tool, the GPC. 68 submissions were selected for the GCP; 13 of these were further recommended for external QI awards. 21 clinical categories and QI interventions emerged as follows: • Access to specialist palliative care • Advance Care Planning • Anticipatory prescribing • Digital • Emergency Department • Environment • Equitable care • Holistic Care • Individualised care planning • Integration • Needs of loved ones • Personalised care • Policies and procedures • Patient and Public Involvement • Psychological and emotional needs • Recognition • Religious & spiritual needs • Therapy • Training and education • Virtual ward • Volunteers The GPC case studies support local and national improvement initiatives. NACEL is often approached to share information about QI, the GPC provides a way to do this. Organisations keen to learn from others can search the GPC to review relevant projects that may inform their own QI. To date the GPC site has had over 600 visits.
