Abstract The term “translation strategy” holds an important place in translation studies, yet its meaning often intertwines with related terms like “technique,” “method,” and “procedure.” This ambiguity stems from the different perspectives used to examine these terms, including textual, cognitive, contextual, and problem‐solving orientations. This text seeks to clarify the distinctions between these terms by situating each within its practical and theoretical scope. In doing so, it elucidates the precise connotations and applications of “translation strategy” as distinct from the related terms, while acknowledging the contemporary trend of using “strategy” expansively to encompass the other concepts. Through nuanced exploration, this text aims to refine the terminology underpinning scholarly discourse and pedagogy in translation studies.
