PPT69 The power of partnerships: co-producing palliative and end of life care research with people living with HIV

<h3></h3> Marie Curie and Terrence Higgins Trust recently published a coproduced report titled ‘I don’t want other people to write my history for me’. The report shares findings from a multiple methods study which used a combination of arts-based approaches and an online survey to explore the needs and barriers of people living with HIV regarding planning for and accessing palliative and end of life care. This abstract provides reflections from partners involved (charity representatives, people living with HIV and researchers) around the drivers for success behind this partnership to share learnings for others wishing to take a similar approach in the future. <h3>Methods</h3> This abstract reports reflections from the co-production group of a palliative care research project, including people living with HIV, on the factors that supported the involvement of people living with HIV in the research. Transcripts from coproduction group meetings occurring during the data collection and analysis phases of the multiple methods projects were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. <h3>Results</h3> Six themes illustrate key reflections from the project’s coproduction steering group on facilitating involvement for people living with HIV in a palliative and end of life care research project. The identified themes were partnership as a conduit for successful research, desire for research to be impactful and for impact to extend beyond participation, prioritising robust emotional support for participants, building trust and rapport through engagement and utilizing arts-based approaches. <h3>Conclusion</h3> As more adults with HIV require palliative support, aligning care with their needs is essential. Involving people with HIV in research can improve future services and promote fair access to palliative and end-of-life support. Partnerships and coproduction are essential to generate insightful and impactful research which can address inequity and inform future service design and delivery.
