Modular Chemical Process Intensification (MCPI)

Abstract Modular Chemical Process Intensification (MCPI) represents a paradigm shift in chemical engineering project design and deployment. It is a design philosophy that focuses on modular processing, reduced physical footprint, lower cost shop fabrication, optimizing return on capital for each module, growing capacity by numbering‐up replicate modules as needed, and standardization of design & layout using platform strategies. This benefits the chemical manufacturing project by reducing both initial capital cost and time from conception to deployment. The result is a methodology that substantially reduces both economic risk and manufacturing risk for the operator and the financier. By reducing the risk and lowering barriers to entry (capital and time) adoption of MCPI techniques allows the manufacturer to address both local events and global changes in operations (supply disruption, weather issues, market changes, etc) in a timely and agile manner. MCPI also enables entry by smaller, less well‐funded, more entrepreneurial participants.
