Analysis of the Personality Traits of Cycling Commissaires in Relation to Demographic Variables

This study explores the personality characteristics of cycling commissaires in relation to selected demographic and professional variables. The sample consisted of 58 volunteers out of the 134 commissaires who attended the 2025 Commissaire Training Program organized by the Turkish Cycling Federation. Personality traits were assessed using the Big Five-50 Personality Test (OCEAN), adapted into Turkish by Tatar (2016). The analysis examined potential associations between the commissaires’ Big Five personality dimensions and variables such as gender, education level, commissaire status, years of officiating experience, and the number of races officiated. Descriptive findings indicated that conscientiousness (x̄ = 35.18) and agreeableness (x̄ = 30.44) were the most prominent personality traits within the sample. Statistical analyses further revealed significant associations between education level and agreeableness (p = 0.034), education level and openness to experience/intellect (p = 0.002), and commissaire status and agreeableness (p = 0.032). These findings suggest that certain educational and professional characteristics may be related to variations in specific personality dimensions among cycling commissaires.
