White Noises on Different Stokes Components of Six Millisecond Pulsars

Abstract We presented measurements of jitter noise and radiometer noise for the Stokes parameters I , L , and V in six millisecond pulsars from the International Pulsar Timing Array sample, based on FAST observations. Our analysis shows that the radiometer noise in Stokes I is lower than that in Stokes L and V . For most pulsars, Stokes I also exhibits the lowest total white noise and the lowest jitter noise among the three Stokes parameters. However, for PSR J1713+0747, the jitter noise in Stokes L is approximately 5% smaller than that in Stokes I , and its total white noise is also slightly lower. This result suggests that forming times of arrival using other Stokes parameters—such as Stokes L —may help reduce jitter noise and improve timing precision for some pulsars. In addition, we detected quasiperiodic microstructure in PSRs J0030+0451 and J2145−0750.
