Molecular Targeted Therapeutic Modalities

This chapter presents the various modalities of molecular targeted therapeutics. The chapter discusses two main categories of molecular targeted therapeutics: biologics and small-molecule drugs. Antibody-based therapeutics are presented as an exemplar of biologic therapeutic strategies. For small-molecule drugs, several targeted approaches are discussed including enzyme inhibitors and activators, receptor agonists and antagonists, proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs) and molecular glues, antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs), inducers and inhibitors of protein–protein interactions, correctors of protein misfolding and other modalities.
