Improvement of diagnostic methods for inflammatory diseases of the ENT organs, in particular the pathology of paranasal sinuses, remains an important part of modern otorhinolaryngology. Due to this, it is important to investigate the possibilities of using Raman scattering in the identification of chronic rhinosinusitis. Objective. To select the most optimal experimental conditions and methods of results processing for development of a method for chronic rhinosinusitis diagnosis using Raman scattering spectroscopy. Material and methods. Measurements were carried out from the surface of the samples of the mucosa of the maxillary sinuses in the normal condition and chronic rhinosinusitis. Data were processed using Savitzky-Golay filter, principal components and linear discriminant analysis with justification of the need to identify the most informative Raman bands for differentiation of tissues among themselves. Results. During the study, analysis of spectroscopic data of samples from the intact mucosa of the maxillary sinuses, as well as such in chronic rhinosinusitis of this localization during the registration of spectra from the surface of the samples in paraffin blocks, on aluminum-coated slides after sample cryotomy, on conventional quartz slides before and after hematoxylin and eosin staining, as well as analysis of spectra of native tissue material in the normal condition and pathology were applied. Individual spectral characteristics of the maxillary sinus mucosa in chronic rhinosinusitis and in the normal condition as well as a set of the most informative Raman bands that were individual in each of the study groups were obtained, which allowed to perform an accurate diagnosis. Conclusion. As part of the study, experimental conditions, in which obtaining information when recording the spectra of Raman scattering during the diagnosis of chronic rhinosinusitis was effective, were selected.
