Metastatic Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma to the Colon: A Rare Cause of Acute Lower Gastrointestinal Bleeding

Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is a common reason for hospitalization with many potential etiologies. A primary malignancy or metastatic lesion to any location in the GI tract can cause bleeding. Oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) typically spreads to local lymph nodes, the lungs, or liver. Rarely, OPSCC metastasizes to the small intestine and colon. We present a case of intestinal metastatic human papillomavirus-associated OPSCC, highlighting the need to consider this pathology in patients with previously diagnosed OPSCC presenting with acute GI bleeding.
