Generalized Probabilistic Model for the Corrosion Fatigue Life of High‐Strength Steel Wires Considering Combined Effects of Corrosion and Alternating Stress

ABSTRACT This paper investigates the combined effects of corrosion and alternating stress on the corrosion fatigue (CF) life of high‐strength steel wires (HSSWs). An extensive dataset of CF samples for HSSWs is presented, considering stress range, cyclic loading frequency, and potential difference as influencing factors. A generalized probabilistic model is developed to predict the CF life of HSSWs by exploring the combined effects of these factors. The results indicate that the proposed model accurately fits the CF samples and effectively predicts the CF lives of HSSWs with a specified survival probability. At higher stress ranges, CF life initially increases but then decreases as the potential difference rises, indicating a competing interaction between corrosion and fatigue mechanisms. The CF lives of HSSWs are particularly sensitive to lower stress ranges, lower cyclic loading frequencies, and higher potential differences. Notably, the effect of cyclic loading frequency becomes negligible when it exceeds 10 Hz.
