Tectonically Driven Along-strike Variations in Subsurface Shear-wave Velocity in Eastern Taiwan Revealed by Ambient Noise Tomography Using Dense Arrays Data

This study aims to develop a high-resolution 3D shear-wave velocity model of the upper crust in eastern Taiwan, a region marked by arc-continent collision between the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate. To capture the area's complex tectonic structures, we deployed 411 seismometers across five dense seismic arrays along the Longitudinal Valley and Coastal Range. Using ambient noise tomography, we obtained reliable Rayleigh wave phase velocities ranging from 0.6 to 14 seconds, enabling us to resolve the Vs structure from the surface to a depth of approximately 6 km.
