Implementation of Sex and Gender Equity in Research Guidelines: What Has It Improved?

Arthroscopy and its Family of Journals have adopted the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) guidelines, and this implementation has (1) increased awareness of sex differences, (2) resulted in acknowledgement and acceptance of these standards for research publication, and (3) identified persistent barriers that must be addressed and acted on to advance future research. Building on this momentum, this editorial presents several action items and strategies for meaningful sex-disaggregation in research design, results reporting, statistical analysis, and discussion presentation. By embracing disaggregation as standard practice rather than a secondary consideration, Arthroscopy reinforces its commitment to scientific rigor and to improving clinical outcomes in arthroscopy and sports medicine for all patients.
