Maintaining well integrity during drilling operations is critical to ensuring safety, environmental protection, and operational efficiency. A well barrier system is designed to prevent uncontrolled flow of formation fluids to the surface or into other formations. In accordance with industry standards and company policies, a minimum of two independent well barriers must be in place at all times during drilling activities. These barriers provide redundancy and mitigate the risk of well control incidents. The primary barrier typically consists of the drilling fluid column, which exerts hydrostatic pressure to balance formation pressures. The secondary barrier is usually the mechanical well control equipment, such as the Blowout Preventer (BOP) system. Together, these barriers ensure that any single failure does not compromise overall well integrity. This paper focuses on addressing well barrier challenges encountered in the Gulf of Thailand by introducing an offline cementing tool for 7″ casing in reservoir sections. Traditionally, intermediate casing is set above hydrocarbon-bearing zones; however, recent drilling practices require casing to be set below these zones. This change introduces compliance challenges with two-barrier regulations and prolongs online cementing operations. The proposed offline cementing tool integrates two key features to meet the double-barrier requirement during well completion, allowing the rig to safely nipple down the BOP and move to the next well. The tool achieved a significant reduction in online rig time—from 11 hours to just 2 hours—resulting in over 82% time savings in particular for this 7″ cementing activity while maintaining a dual-barrier system. Since the introduction of 7″ casing cement offline tools, they have been deployed in over 75 wells through the end of 2025. This provides a practical solution to reduce rig time, enhance operational efficiency, and maintain well integrity by ensuring two barriers are in place at all times during the cementing job.
