Education in the service of deceleration - a pathway to saving humanity?

<ns3:p>The purpose of this article is to present an argument for "education in the service of deceleration". The author's narrative begins with humanity as a phenomenon we must/should preserve in a world dominated by technology. Education is a momentous and responsible task, intended to help individuals continually develop to their full potential. Exploring diverse trails from the broadly defined humanities and social sciences, the author presents her arguments and contrasts two educational modalities, which she terms "education in the service of acceleration" and "education in the service of deceleration." The former shapes, the so-called "surfers," permanently riding the wave of civilisation, while the latter shapes, so-called "visionaries," who are/should be permanently ready to attest to their humanity. A creatively exploited trail, intended as an "instrument" for decelerating this acceleration, is H. Rosa's concept of resonance.</ns3:p>
