The Relevance of Social Work Methods in the Indian Perspective

Social work is a professional and Academic Discipline whose aim is to make organized efforts for the welfare of Individuals, Groups and Communities. It is a method of working with people which employs six Major Techniques. The first three Techniques is Social case work, Social Group work, and Community Organization focus on working with people by addressing their problems, while the other three Social Action, Social Work Research and Social Welfare Administration focus on working for people by dealing with broader social issues. These techniques are used by Professional social workers in such a way that Individuals, Groups and Communities are empowered to resolve their own problems. The relevance of these Methods becomes even more significant in the Indian context, where challenges such as Poverty, Illiteracy, Unemployment, Gender inequality, Health disparities and social exclusion are deeply rooted. In the present scenario, as India undergoes rapid Socio-Economic change, Digitalization and Globalization, Social work Methods serve not only as tools for Problem-Solving but also as the foundation for Equality, Social justice and Inclusive development. This research paper seeks to explore how these Techniques function in the current Global context and how social workers utilize them to improve the living standards of Individuals, Groups and Communities.
