Prevention of errors and complications in the treatment of children with vascular lesions of the head and neck

Objective. To develop a treatment algorithm reducing the number of errors and complications in children with hyperplasia of blood vessels in the head and neck. Material and methods. The study included 4335 patients with hyperplasia of blood vessels (infant hemangioma) in 1999-2024. Original algorithm for the treatment of children with vascular lesions of the head and neck was used. Various minimally invasive techniques were used within this algorithm: drug treatment with beta-blockers, laser coagulation, pulsed phototherapy, as well as combined treatment (surgery with interstitial laser coagulation, surgery followed by pulsed phototherapy). Results. Minimally invasive methods (drug therapy with beta-blockers, interstitial laser coagulation, pulsed phototherapy and combination of these methods) were followed by the best effects in children with various vascular lesions of the head and neck. Conclusion. Original treatment algorithm for children with hyperplasia of blood vessels of the head and neck avoids errors at the stage of diagnosis and prevention of complications with subsequent favorable functional and aesthetic results.
