Efficient circular fractal antennas for UWB applications in wireless networks

In this manuscript the aerial starts as a circular patch and square fractals like Minkowski are done on the initial shape. Two fractal iterations are done on the main patch and rectangular defect is introduced to enhance the antenna performance in terms of bandwidth and gain to make it applicable for ultra wideband communication systems. A simple make microstrip feed system is employed to ensure easy fabrication and impedance matching. The aerial operates from 3.1-10.6 GHz covering ultra wide band. Maximum gain obtained is 5.3dB. The design has a comprehensive electrical size of 30 × 44 mm2 and is made on an ordinarily available FR4 substrate. Fractal along with ground defect provides multiband frequency range. Parametric analysis and iterations has been done to finalize the dimensions of the antenna. The proposed aerial is applicable for ultra wide band (UWB), S, C and part of X band utilizations.. Simulation results have been done with CST Microwave Studio.
