Toward A Transformative Reconstruction of Qur’anic Sciences Education in Indonesian Islamic Higher Institutions

This paper addresses the urgent need for advancing the study of Qur'anic sciences in Islamic higher education institutions, where progress has stalled in recent years. Utilizing both field and library research, the study examines factors contributing to the stagnation of ‘ulūm al-qur’ān studies, focusing on five State Islamic Universities in Indonesia: Purwokerto, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Bandung, and Jakarta. Field research involved analyzing curriculum documents and conducting interviews with lecturers and students, while the library research employed critical analysis and intertextual methods. Based on the findings, the author proposes a reconstructive approach to ‘ulūm al-qur’ān, emphasizing a focus on five core subjects within this field and highlighting their philosophy of knowledge as an intellectual pursuit. The study also recommends dynamic curriculum reform and the development of relevant teaching materials to enhance both comprehension and application of Qur'anic sciences.
