Research Protocol for the Scoping Review "Higher Education Governance"

This research protocol provides a detailed description of the procedure for implementing the methodology of a systematic literature assessment, specifically a scoping review. To provide an overview of gender research on university and higher education governance, the scoping review extracted a corpus of 50 studies that were identified by using a specific search strategy in 30 relevant gender research journals which use English as publication language. The overarching scope of the review includes approaches, theories, and methodologies with an intersectional perspective as a tool which is critical of power-relations. Our understanding of governance covers both intra-organizational and inter-organizational governance of universities. This scoping review examines the variety of use and application of theories and methods that examine in which way intersecting, oppressive and gendered hierarchies are embedded into macro-, meso- and micro-levels of governmental structures in universities and higher education institutions.
