The Phenomenon of Academia Mentoring in the Media Sphere: Pedagogical, Socio-Cultural, and Axiological Aspects

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon of academic mentoring in media communications, based on a thematic issue of the journal “Chelyabinsk Humanitarian” (2023, № 3). In the context of digital transformation and paradigm shifts in higher education, research into a relevant mentoring model that addresses contemporary challenges is particularly important. The novelty of this study lies in the development and validation of an integrated analytical model that overcomes the fragmentation of existing approaches through the synthesis of pedagogical, sociocultural, and axiological aspects. The methodological basis was the set of complementary methods: content analysis, thematic modeling, comparative and contrastive analysis, and biographical analysis. The study identified and characterized stable mentoring models (“master-dialoguer”, “systemic organizer of science”, “mentor-educator”), each representing a unique combination of pedagogical strategies, sociocultural practices, and value orientations. It was established that the core of this phenomenon forms an axiological foundation (service, freedom, faith in the student, continuity), which generates specific pedagogical practices and is realized through forms of sociocultural influence — from educational activities to intellectual leadership. The theoretical significance of this study is confirmed by verification of the proposed three-component model. The practical value lies in the potential use of the obtained results for building effective mentoring systems at universities. Prospects for further research are identified, including comparative interdisciplinary analysis and longitudinal studies of the career trajectories of graduates from scientific schools.
