Active and intelligent packaging are a smart food packaging as they continuously monitor the food condition and acts as an active ingredient to maintain the freshness and quality of the food. This smart packaging offers new business opportunities to satisfy the huge expectations of the consumers and to increase the self-life of the foods. The barrier strength and mechanical properties of the coating can be tuned with the help of this green nanotechnology. In addition, due to the use of biologically synthesized nanoparticles in the food package coatings and their antimicrobial activity, no extra effects need to be for the packaging. Hence, in the pertained chapter, we have discussed the types of food packaging in detail along with the use of green nanoparticles in smart food packaging.
