The Relationship Between Experience, Age, And Peer Support With Perineum Care Behavior In Primipara

Perineal care is an effort to maintain hygiene and health of the area between the vulva and anus in postpartum mothers. A preliminary study conducted in Pamekasan Regency in February 2025 showed that 60% of postpartum mothers had poor perineal care behavior. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between experience, age, and peer support with perineal care behavior among primiparous mothers. The research design used an analytical cross-sectional approach, with independent variables including experience, age, and peer support, and the dependent variable being perineal care behavior. The population consisted of 47 postpartum mothers, with a sample of 42 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test with a significance level of α=0.05. The results showed that most respondents had low to moderate experience (47.6%), were in early adulthood (52.4%), and had moderate peer support (61.9%). Half of the respondents (50%) demonstrated good perineal care behavior. Statistical analysis indicated significant relationships between experience, age, and peer support with perineal care behavior (ρ<0.05). Therefore, healthcare providers are expected to enhance education and involve social support, including husbands, to improve mothers’ confidence in performing proper perineal care.
