成層圏における大気生物学的研究動向と実験プラットフォーム開発

Although microorganisms in the stratosphere were first reported in the 1960s, details of their dynamics are not yet fully characterized. Understanding the dynamics of biological materials in the stratosphere is important from both aerobiological and astrobiological perspectives, as it is expected to elucidate intercontinental and interplanetary transport of microorganisms and biomolecules, and contribute to advances in planetary protection research. In this study, we established a platform to expose DNA molecules to the stratosphere, in order to investigate the relationship between their resistance to extreme environments and their chemical and topological characteristics.
