Determination of Some Bioecological Characteristics of Resseliella oleisuga (Targioni-Tozzetti, 1887) (Diptera: Cecidomyidae), a Pest of Olive Trees in Kahramanmaraş and Gaziantep Provinces, Türkiye

Olive scab fly, Resseliella oleisuga Targioni-Tozzetti, 1887 (Diptera: Cecidomydiidae), which periodically made land exits to 4 different olive groves in the provinces of Kahramanmaraş (Dulkadiroğlu district, Beyazıtlı district and Türkoğlu district, Kılıçlı district) and Gaziantep (Oğuzeli district, İkizkuyu district) in 2021-2022. To determine the infestation rate and exchange rate, irregular land surveys were conducted in olive groves in Kahramanmaraş and Gaziantep provinces to assess the prevalence of the olive scab fly. Surveys conducted in olive groves in Kahramanmaraş and Gaziantep provinces revealed the presence of a population of the currency, infected leaf trees, larvae, and adult emergence on infected branches. In the olive gardens where the trials were conducted, the infestation rates were 10% in Kılılı, Kahramanmaraş, and 5% in Beyazıtlı in 2021. In contrast, it was detected at 35% in İkizkuyu 1st garden and 20% in İkizkuyu 2nd garden in Gaziantep. In 2022, the rates were found to be 15% in Kılılı, Kahramanmaraş, and 10% in Beyazıtlı, while they were 45% in İkizkuyu 1st Garden, Gaziantep, and 25% in İkizkuyu 2nd Garden. Studies conducted in Gaziantep province determined that Resseliella oleisuga, the olive scab fly, was more common and damaging than in Kahramanmaraş province. Additionally, it has been determined that it produces two generations per year in the provinces of Kahramanmaraş and Gaziantep, where the study was conducted. During laboratory studies, Eupelmus sp. (Hymenoptera: Eupelmidae) has been identified as the natural enemy of the olive scab fly.
