Coinfection of <i>Mycoplasma pneumoniae</i> and West Nile Virus in a Boy With Neurological Manifestations

Weakness is a common clinical manifestation that can emerge from a broad spectrum of medical conditions including certain infectious etiologies, complicating the diagnostic process. Both Mycoplasma pneumoniae and West Nile virus (WNV) have been documented to cause neurologic symptoms. The pathologic mechanism behind each differs; however, they can each cause a clinical presentation that includes weakness and loss of reflexes. This report identifies the first unique case in the literature of lower extremity weakness and areflexia due to a concurrent infection of Mycoplasma pneumoniae and WNV.
