A new electric imaging configuration combining dipole-dipole and Schlumberger-Wenner arrays to enhance detection of a thin sliding layer

In this study, the theoretical background of a little-known electrode configuration combining dipole-dipole and Schlumberger-Wenner arrays was revisited. In addition, an electric imaging survey using this new configuration was successfully simulated by 3D geoelectric modeling technique for a geotechnical ground model, typical of the subsurface underlying a landslide site in Sa Pa, Lao Cai province, northern Vietnam. The resistivity values from the dipole-dipole and Schlumberger-Wenner arrays are combined and transformed into a so-called Petrovski’s resistivity. The latter proved to have a higher vertical resolution comparing to that of the former electrode arrays and it will be tested in practice with the aim to detect better a thin layer of weathered marble at a study landslide side in Sa Pa as a part of an ongoing GWB Q1Q22024 project.
