Ansiedade Matemática Traço e Estado: O que muda no desempenho?

The study investigated the effects of Mathematics Anxiety (MA) trait and state before and after math tasks in 22 children aged 9-13 years from elementary schools in Vitória da Conquista, BA. Using a quantitative, quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-tests, participants were divided into experimental (n=12) and control (n=10) groups. Instruments included the Arithmetic Subtest of the School Performance Test (TDE), Mathematics Anxiety Questionnaire (QAM), Numerical Transcoding Task, and State Mathematics Anxiety Questionnaire (State-MAQ). Data analysis employed Spearman’s correlation (SPSS 25) and Cohen’s d (Excel). Results showed increased MA state post-test in the experimental group without reducing math performance. Effect sizes included medium for MAC-B (d = -0.56) and State-MAQ (d = -0.61*), and very large for TDE (d = -1.28). Higher MA levels correlated with better arithmetic performance, with medium (d = -0.69) and small (d = -0.30) effects in experimental and control groups, respectively.
