Breaking the subsalt image resolution barrier: Insights from an ultra-high density deepwater ocean bottom nodes experiment in Thunder Horse, GoA

Despite the advancement in FWI algorithms and modern OBN acquisition, subsalt images are largely limited to 25-30 Hz as the upper end of the useful frequency range. The resulting lack of resolution significantly impairs our ability to accurately describe detailed reservoir architecture necessary for placing expensive deepwater development and production wells. In this study, we demonstrate that frequencies up to 60 Hz may be imaged in subsalt regions from the ultra-high density OBN survey acquired over the Thunder Horse field. We discuss potential implications for future data acquisition efforts.
